Waymen Wong, DPT

Doctor of Physiotherapy

Waymen Wong, graduated with his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2002 with high honours from the University of St. Augustine in Florida, USA.  After a year long post graduate study in manual therapy he sat for and successfully passed a 2-day intensive written, oral, and practical examination to receive his Manual Therapy Certificate (MTC).  In 2003 he moved to Seattle Washington and had a practice at the Ballard Sports Medicine Clinic working in a team with orthopaedic doctors and surgeons treating college and professional level athletes.

During his time in Seattle he completed an orthopaedic manual therapy residency program with the Ola Grimsby Institute, and in 2005 a post-doctoral fellowship in Chicago, receiving well over 1500 hours of residency training and 1000 hours of advanced fellowship level training.  In 2006 he sat for and passed his residency and fellowship exams to become a Fellow in both the Canadian and American Academies for Manual Therapy (FAAOMPT, FCAMPT).  Later that year he returned to Vancouver, where he is originally from, and has practiced in a chronic pain clinic clinic, as well as various sports and orthopaedic clinics.

Before physiotherapy, Waymen’s first degree was in kinesiology from Simon Fraser University.  As a kinesiologist he worked in gym settings as a personal trainer, and in rehabilitation settings helped patients with return to work programs and post MVA injuries.

Today, Waymen continues to be involved with the Ola Grimsby Institute through assisting post-graduate residency programs, being a clinical mentor to residency students, and coordinating continuing education courses in Canada for physiotherapists.

He is a contributing author in the Orofacial Pain and TMJ section of an academic textbook (Science, Theory and Clinical Application in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy: Scientific Therapeutic Exercise Progressions (STEP): The Neck and Upper Extremity), has held classes for physiotherapists as well as  dentists in the areas of manual therapy and TMJ, and has been involved with the Physiotherapy Association of BC (PABC) having sat on the Extended Scope of Practice Task Force and the Professional Development Advisory Council.  He is a member of the American Academy of Manual Therapy, American Academy of Orofacial Pain, Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Physiotherapy Association of BC, and the Canadian Academy of Manual Physical Therapy.

Waymen has specialized training in treating temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain.  His philosophy is that even sports performance can be greatly affected by breathing and jaw dysfunction as these have profound effects on postural biomechanics, power generation, and core stability.  Optimizing and balancing the body from head to toe must include proper evaluation of all these systems.

I would absolutely recommend Kerrisdale Physiotherapy, no questions asked. Dr. Wong is extremely skilled and very knowledgable in assessing a target area, relieving pain, and improving function through exercises that aided greatly in my recovery. His methodology of not rushing treatment and knowing exactly when to increase or decrease treatment is ideal for any patient, as he is excellent at
gauging the needs and progress of individuals. I have passed on the word to many people and will continue to."

I heard about Kerrisdale Physiotherapy through a friend who spoke very highly of her physiotherapist. I was frustrated with other clinics and therapists and decided to give Kerrisdale Physiotherapy a try. My therapist is outstanding; he is extremely knowledgeable, well trained and caring. His technique has really helped me with my sciatica and definitely accelerated my recovery. I would highly recommend Kerrisdale Physiotherapy. "

My family doctor referred me to Dr. Waymen Wong at  PrecisionCare Physiotherapy in Kerrisdale because of unremitting pain in my back and leg. The pain was caused by advanced arthritis that no amount of medication could palliate.  I could not stand for more than a minute nor walk for more than the length of a room.

I was on a six month wait list at VGH for a spinal nerve block. I saw Dr Wong twice a week for the next five months when
what I called his magic hands worked on the tissues surrounding the nerve that was causing my trouble.

It was painful work done with compassion and concern for me at all times.
Five months after my first appointment the treatments resulted in reducing the pain in my leg to the point where I can now walk several blocks and I
rarely require pain medication.   Dr. Wong and his staff in the clinic have treated me with much appreciated kindness and expertise. I am so very grateful."

I use Dr. Wong because I have had excellent results whenever I have had a problem which required physiotherapy. "

What is required for a Physiotherapy treatment facility is the same throughout the lower mainland.

What sets Kerrisdale Precision Physiotherapy apart from all of the several facilities I have had experience with, including Treloar Clinic, Watermania Clinic and about 4 others, is the consistent effort made to consider the individual walking in the door, starting with Reception and Billing, the Assessments and Treatments and the ultimate improvements.

I have always departed this facility with the understanding that I am, although sometimes mitigated by the early post-treatment effects, fully confident that I have received the correct amount of the appropriate interventions.

In almost 5 years of continuing treatment under a single WSBC Claim, I have, every time, within a day or two after a treatment session, noted that I am better able to cope with my chronic issues.  I highly recommend these attentive and talented professionals.  I have no knowledge of any better facility."

Even though I live in White Rock, I continue to have Dr. Wong as my physiotherapist because he is one of the greats. He has an amazing ability to hone in on my many sore spots and find the perfect treatment, and he sure is nice too. I highly recommend Dr. Wong and Kerrisdale Physio to anybody looking for a good physio."
